Edinburgh Community Events Federation

Keeping the Traditions Alive

Community events are at the heart of Edinburgh's neighbourhoods. From gala days and fairs to festive celebrations, parades and local initiatives, they bring people together, strengthen communities and create memories that last a lifetime.

The Edinburgh Community Events Federation (ECEF) has been established to support, represent and connect the volunteers and organisations who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver these cherished events.

We believe that community traditions matter.

We believe that volunteers deserve support, clear guidance and a voice in the decisions that affect them.

Most importantly, we believe that Edinburgh's community events should continue to thrive for generations to come.

Keeping the traditions alive.

About Us

The Edinburgh Community Events Federation is a network of volunteer-led organisations, community groups and event organisers from across Edinburgh who share a common goal:

To protect, promote and strengthen the future of community events in our city.

Our members organise and support a diverse range of events, including:

  • Gala Days and Community Fairs;

  • Christmas events and festive celebrations;

  • Community fun days;

  • Youth and family events;

  • Heritage celebrations;

  • Local festivals; and

  • Neighbourhood initiatives that bring people together.

We recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers and the challenges they increasingly face.

By working collaboratively, sharing experiences and speaking with a collective voice, we aim to ensure that Edinburgh remains a city where community traditions can flourish.

Our Mission Statement

Our Mission

To champion, support and connect Edinburgh's volunteer-led community events, ensuring they remain safe, sustainable, inclusive and accessible for future generations.

Our Vision

We envision an Edinburgh where:

  • Community traditions are valued and protected;

  • Volunteers are respected, supported and empowered;

  • Community events are encouraged rather than discouraged;

  • Guidance and regulation are clear, proportionate and consistent;

  • Local organisations work together to share knowledge and resources; and

  • Every community has the opportunity to celebrate what makes it unique.

Our Values

Community

We believe strong communities are built through participation, belonging and shared experiences.

Collaboration

We achieve more when organisers, volunteers, public bodies and local organisations work together.

Tradition

We recognise the importance of preserving the events and customs that shape our local identities.

Inclusion

Community events should be welcoming, accessible and open to everyone.

Sustainability

Volunteer-led events should have the support and resources necessary to continue into the future.

Respect

We promote constructive engagement, recognising the important roles played by volunteers, partners and public services.
